This is the digital age! Young people are using technology at home and at school. They use computers, mobile phones, video games consoles etc., as part of their everyday lives. They often seem ‘expert’ compared to parents!

But, young people do not have the ‘life experience’ of adults and need your support. You can provide this by talking to your child about what they are doing with technology and how to keep safe online.

Our new E-safety Policy can help understand some of the expectations for our children and staff here at Bush Hill Park Primary School.

ParentInfo.org

ParentInfo.org is a great new Parent Zone resource which can help parents understand the latest trends in Social Media and most importantly how to stay safe with real examples and methods to change the default privacy settings on the most popular apps and website. The articles below are part of a live feed from their website and is updated regularly - click on 'Read More' to see all the information about that article.

Use this page to help understand the ways in which we can support young children when using online resources. We want young children to use the internet in a well supported and safe way, they need to be S.M.A.R.T.:

Safe: Don’t give your personal information out such as email, home address or school name.

Meet: Meeting someone in real life that you have only been in touch with online can be dangerous. Only do so with your parents’ or carers’ permission.

Accepting: Accepting emails, messages, or opening files, images or texts from people you don’t know or trust can lead to problems

Reliable: Someone online might lie about who they are. Information on the internet may not be true. Always check information by looking at other websites, in books, or ask someone who knows.

Tell: Tell a parent, carer or a trusted adult if someone, or something, makes you feel uncomfortable or worried, or if you or someone you know is being bullied online.
