At Bush Hill Park School all children take part in a daily mathematics lesson.
We follow the National Curriculum and aim for all pupils to become confident mathematicians.
We want our pupils to display a real enthusiasm and enjoyment of the subject and be equipped to use maths in everyday situations.
We do this by developing pupil understanding of concepts by using concrete apparatus to support learning. Pupils will use equipment such as counters, bead strings and numicon to help them develop concepts. They will then incorporate the use of pictures and patterns before moving onto standard methods for addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.
In Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 we teach using the Mathematics Mastery scheme. Central to all lessons is the development of language and communication. In addition to this children are taught to solve problems and think mathematically.
In KS2 the children continue to follow the National Curriculum for mathematics and use we the Busy Ants Scheme to support our planning and teaching.
Please support your child by attending one of our regular Ocean Maths workshops and by encouraging them to complete homework tasks and learn their times tables. Click on a link below to view the PDF:
